When was the last time your faculty, who teach online, were students in an online course about teaching online? Redesigning our Tech Camp to be a 10 week online model proved to be critical as the faculty worked through preconceived notions about online teaching, and they developed an understanding of the online learning experience. Some misperceptions of online courses are:*all are self-paced*there must be a “class time” (synchronous)*there cannot be a “class time” (asynchronous)*students never interact with each other or the teacher*everything can be completed during the last week*weekly reflections can be submitted mid-week Participants will:1. Recognize how an online faculty development course reveals misperceptions about online teaching and learning on their campus2. Identify the need for placing online teachers in the role of an online student3. Enable collaboration across units4. Discuss how to model effective pedagogical methods for learning
