Giving effective and timely feedback is a critical skill for online educators.  Feedback is defined as information provided from instructors to learners about course assignments, activities, and discussions (Getzlaf, Perry, Toffner, Lamarche, & Edwards, 2009).  Studies indicate that receiving effective feedback in online courses is an important element of learning (Getzlaf et al., 2009; Lewis & Abdul-Hamid, 2006).  The craft of giving effective feedback includes timely, balanced “sandwich technique” comments that encourage the learner to excel.  In this presentation, tips for giving effective feedback online are presented.  Evidence-based samples of constructive feedback are shared with attendees.
Take aways:1. Strategies for how an educator can excel at providing feedback in online teaching practice.  2. The use of balanced feedback that uses the “sandwich technique.”  3. Participants will explore samples of evidence-based, effective online feedback.
